Broadway poised to go ‘Head Over Heels’ for Go-Go’s musical

Stage production will be fueled by songs from the '80s band's catalog.

Which seems more unlikely: That the Go-Go's have a touring stage musical? That it's produced by Gwyneth Paltrow? Or that it will finally land on Broadway in the 2018-2019 season?

Their lips are sealed no longer: All three of those are true. Variety reports that Head Over Heels will open this spring in San Francisco. But before you buy a ticket thinking this is a musical retelling of the band's road to stardom, here's the most unlikely of facts: Head Over Heels is actually – and I better just quote this from Variety so I don't get it wrong – "an Elizabethan romance based on Philip Sidney's Arcadia." (And no, not the Duran Duran offshoot band Arcadia. Sorry '80s fans. But wouldn't that have been cool?)

The play does feature hits from the band, including We Got The Beat, Vacation and Our Lips Are Sealed, along with solo hits from Go-Go's lead singer Belinda Carlisle (misspelled by Variety as Carlyle – hey, we all make mistakes).

Lest you think the musicians and Paltrow are going it along on this venture, rest assured that the production is full of Broadway's biggest names, including those behind Avenue Q, Spring Awakening and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
