While continuing discussions on bigger topics, the Rays made a small deal Monday, acquiring INF Joey Wendle from the A's for a player to be named later or cash.
Wendle, 27, spent part of the last two seasons in the majors, hitting .266 over 36 games. He is a lefty hitter who has played primarily second base though has some versatility and has an option remaining.
Wendle was DFA'd by the A's last week. He spent most of last season at Triple-A Nashville, hitting .285 with 29 doubles, eight triples, eight homers and 54 RBI in 118 games.
