Facebook has announced that changes are coming to your news feed this year.

“I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Facebook page.

What does that mean? You’re more likely to see posts from friends and family in your network and less content from brands, businesses and media — like the Tampa Bay Times.

At the Times, we believe our Facebook audience deserves quality news coverage that shapes and impacts your life. Posts to our Facebook pages are one important way many of our readers receive the news. Also, you can add your reaction to a post or leave a comment.

To ensure that you continue to see updates from us in your Facebook news feed take these steps now:

On a mobile device

Log into your Facebook account and click on the three horizontal lines in the bottom or on the top right corner of your screen.

On an iPhone, scroll down to the bottom of the menu and click on ‘settings.’ You skip this step on an Android phone.

Then click on ‘News Feed Preferences’. This will open a new page with preferences controls. (Note: The images are from an Android phone. Your screen may look different.)

Select ‘Prioritize who to see first’. Now you’ll see a list of pages and profiles you ‘like’ on Facebook.

Scroll through the list and select the pages that provide the coverage you want to see on your feed regularly. The pages you choose will be annotated with a blue star.

You may need to hit ‘done’ in the top or on the bottom right corner of your screen to save your changes.

On your desktop

Log into Facebook. In the left-hand column of your homepage, look for ‘news feed’ at the top of the menu and then click the three dots beside it.

From the pop-up menu, select ‘edit preferences’ at the bottom. This will open a new pop-up window with preference controls.

Select ‘Prioritize who to see first’. Now you’ll see a list of pages and profiles you ‘like’ on Facebook.

Scroll through the list and select the pages that provide the coverage you want to see on your feed regularly. The pages you choose will be annotated with a blue star.

Hit ‘done’ in the bottom right corner of your screen to save your changes.
