Within about 20 minutes and only 15 miles apart this week, Pinellas deputies responded to complaints of drunk men disturbing the peace outside a candy store and near a children's birthday party.

The incidents occurred Tuesday evening.

In the first, deputies were summoned to the 13700 block of Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach at about 7:10 p.m., which is the location of the well-known Candy Kitchen store.

There, they found John Tomlin, 57, outside of the store. Tomlin, deputies said, was "very intoxicated and belligerent" and was warned "multiple times to control his behavior and stop shouting and cursing," an arrest report states.

But Tomlin "continued to cause a disturbance in front of groups of people including children outside of the candy store," the report states.

Deputies noted that he had a half-full bottle of liquor that he kept drinking while speaking to them. They arrested him on a charge of disorderly intoxication. He was adjudicated guilty the next day, ordered to pay a fine and was released.

His criminal history includes a number of local arrests going back several years on charges of trespassing and having an open container.

Just 19 minutes after deputies responded to that call, they were summoned to a Quality Inn & Suites at 3655 Hospitality Lane in the Clearwater area.

Here, they encountered Anthony James Nykorchuk, 39, who was carrying two 375-mililiter bottles of Fireball cinnamon whiskey, arrest reports state

Deputies said he was causing a disturbance at the pool. Witnesses said they saw him "urinating in the hallway nearby" and that he yelled "numerous vulgarities and profanities next do a child's birthday party," arrest reports state.

He was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication and having an open container of alcohol. He was released from jail on his own recognizance.
