ST. PETERSBURG — The Pinellas County Commission approved a resolution on Tuesday allowing Jabil, Inc. to move forward with its $67.3 million plan to overhaul its Gateway area headquarters.

In a 4-1 vote, commissioners voted to allow Jabil to use a property tax exemption that's designed to spur economic growth. But the county will still have to approve a separate ordinance actually authorizing the exemption.

During the Tuesday afternoon meeting, Pinellas County's economic development director Mike Meidel told the board that they will likely vote on that authorization by February 2019, once a projected value of the new improvements is complete.

The exemption on Jabil's real estate is worth up to $225,000 per year. The exemption on tangible property such as computers, electronics and other furnishings, could start at $66,000 a year.
