TAMPA — Tampa residents, if you notice a helicopter hovering suspiciously close to transmission lines this week, don't be alarmed. Tampa Electric Co. is employing helicopters to help inspect the lines during the day as part of the utility's routine equipment inspections.

The helicopters will be hovering between 30 and 300 feet above the equipment to assist workers who are using cameras and infrared technology. Summit Helicopter, a California-based company, is supplying the choppers.

Tampa Electric has about 1,300 miles of transmission lines, all of which will be inspected over the coming week.
