The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it will open a disaster recovery center Thursday in Riverview for Hillsborough County residents impacted by Hurricane Irma.

The center will operate out of the Regent at Hillsborough Community College at 6437 Watson Road and will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

Survivors are urged to register before visiting the center. Residents can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362.

An early assessment by officials found about $9 million in damage to homes and businesses in Hillsborough County. About 290 single family homes and 140 mobile homes were damaged or destroyed. The Alafia, Hillsborough and Little Manatee rivers all flooded in the days following the storm.

FEMA crews are canvassing affected areas of Hillsborough County to find and register storm survivors who may need assistance, the agency said.
