The Lights On Tampa program was developed by the City of Tampa’s Public Art Program, in conjunction with regional businesses, volunteers, and art supporters. It was developed in order to reaffirm Tampa’s commitment to arts and technology by presenting highly visible, innovative light installations created by juried artists. A jury is a committee of experts who judge contestants to be part of an exhibition.
The purpose of Lights On Tampa is to bring free access to artistic excellence. Its emphasis is on new media technologies and education.
Lights On Tampa 2009 brings the work of major contemporary artists to downtown Tampa from Jan. 10 through Feb. 2. Lights On Tampa 2009 sites include The Tampa Convention Center and Riverwalk, USF Park, Cotanchobee Park, and Fort Brooke Parking Garage.
