Children across the Tampa Bay area head to their first day of classes Monday in wet, muggy conditions, but things should improve by the second half of the week as more dry air shifts into the Tampa Bay area.

Parents will want to bring an umbrella Monday morning as the sho wers that pestered Tampa Bay overnight begin to dissipate with the sunrise, according to the National Weather Service.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The 10-day outlook for the Tampa Bay area

Those rain clouds will recede into the gulf, but by the afternoon the coastal breeze will push them back inland and provide Tampa Bay with a 40-50 percent chance of rain.

If it isn't raining, skies should be partly cloudy with temperatures reaching around 87 by the afternoon, forecasters said. Expect the rain clouds to dry up quickly by the late evening. Overnight temperatures will fall to the mid 70s under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday's weather conditions should be similar to Monday with temperatures in the upper 80s and the chance of rain around 40 percent by the afternoon. Rain is expected to be worst east of I-75, forecasters said.

A drier air mass should move into the Tampa Bay by Wednesday, bringing clear conditions for the second half of the week. Rain chances fall to around 20-30 percent. Temperatures will continue reaching the low 90s but with the humidity the heat index may hit triple digits.
