Tampa Bay residents can expect typical July weather patterns Friday and heading into the weekend as warm weather and sunshine leads to possible afternoon storms.

The National Weather Service has most of the storms developing inland during the afternoon. Coastal areas steady at around a 20 percent chance of rain and 30-40 percent as you head further east past Tampa. Inland thunderstorms are expected to break up before midnight while a new thunderstorms develop over the Gulf of Mexico late at night.

Highs should remain in the low to mid 90s with warm and muggy lows in the 70s leading to a dry Saturday morning.

The pattern should hold up through the weekend as highs remain in the 90s and lows in the 70s with a 30 percent chance of afternoon storms. However, forecasters say a system of high atmospheric pressure coming in from the northwest Friday and into Saturday is expected to increase over the weekend, keeping overall thunderstorm coverage low. Thunderstorm chances can spike between 30 and 50 percent over the interior during the late afternoon and early evening Saturday as the east and west coast sea breezes meet.

Forecasters say some areas can experience locally heavy rainfall with frequent lightning strikes and gusty winds. The weekend should maintain those seasonal norms with a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees each afternoon.

Meanwhile in the Atlantic, a weak area of low pressure associated with the remnants of Beryl formed about 300 miles west of Bermuda overnight, but showers and thunderstorms in the system are disorganized due to strong upper-lever winds. And after Chris was downgraded to a post-tropical depression on Thursday, the National Hurricane Center reports no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic at this time.
