The end of winter meets the start of spring on Tuesday as low temperatures and thunderstorms are forecast to roll into the Tampa Bay area on Tuesday — and maybe even hail.

There's a cold front moving east from the Gulf of Mexico. Once it reaches the coast between 8 and 10 a.m., it's going to get cold and wet out there.

"We'll start to see showers and thunderstorms and some rather strong winds impacting the Tampa Bay region," said National Weather Service meteorologist Richard Rude.

As much as ¾ of an inch of rain is projected to fall Tuesday. Rain showers will move east and southeast across the bay area and are not expected to taper off until 2 p.m.

But hail? At this time of the year?

"I would say it's not really out of the question," Rude said. There's some cold air sitting 18,000 to 20,000 feet above the bay area that could produce hail.

Temperatures will also drop. The morning will see the mid to upper 60s, but depending on where you live, the high could still reach the 80s.
