CLEARWATER — The Gateway Neighborhood just east of downtown will come alive with two events on Saturday.

The city will host Día del niño, or Children's Day, featuring music, rides, dancing, trampolines, a bounce house, face painting, bike giveaways, food vendors and other activities. The event is free and will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Cleveland Street between Lincoln Avenue and Betty Lane.

The city has been hosting the event for a number of years to celebrate the community's children, said community development manager Gabe Parra.

At the same time, Clearwater Community Gardens will host visitors day at 1277 Grove St. at the corner of N Betty Lane. Visitors can tour the 50 raised bed gardening plots, view three active honey bee colonies, walk through a 600-square-foot pollinator garden and browse more than 500 seedlings for purchase, according to community gardens president Howard Warshauer.

Gardening enthusiasts will find a large selection of plants, annuals, vegetables and herbs. Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions. Proceeds from the event support Clearwater Community Gardens.
