Wells Fargo will close two of its branches in Pinellas County as part of a nationwide closure that reflects a continued shift toward online banking.

The two branches — one in Redington Shores and one at the Dunedin Plaza — are the only ones in Tampa Bay set to close at this time, a bank regional spokeswoman, Michelle Palomino, said in an email.

Palomino said the bank plans to close 300 branches nationwide this year.

"While branches are important in serving our customers' needs, customers have more ways than ever to bank and digital usage continues to increase," she said. "We will continue to keep top of mind the needs of our communities and team members."

She also said the total branch network could drop from about 5,800 branches to 5,000 by the end of 2020.

Wells Fargo has a total of 79 branches in the Tampa Bay area and is the second-largest bank in Florida by deposits, trailing only Bank of America. The number of statewide closures was not disclosed.
