A Lutz man was killed Sunday evening when he walked into the path of a car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 51-year-old Dean Michael Jones of Tampa was driving his 2007 Toyota Camry southbound in the inside lane of Dale Mabry at the intersection of Brinson Road in Pasco County when at 6:49 p.m., a 71-year-old pedestrian entered into his path.

The Camry struck the pedestrian, later identified as John Howard Perry, of Lutz. He died at the scene of the crash.

Jones did not suffer any injuries but his passenger, 44-year-old Natali Kusmajadi Marchesini of Lutz, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities said charges are pending and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
